Helene Stuart, of blessed memory, passed yesterday at the Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospice (Jerusalem) at the age of 88. Deepest condolences to her family.
My wife and fellow Rotarian, Marilyn Farber, and I met Bob & Helene 15 years ago Where Bob was an esteemed member of the Jerusalem Rotary Club. This was the beginning of a valued friendship.
When Bob passed, Helene was asked and happily joined our Club. Helene immediately made a very positive contribution as a wonderful Rotary member- she lived the motto - Service Above Self.
She was elected to our Club board every year where she served as the calming, thoughtful voice of reason. She headed up the Good & Welfare service keeping us informed of the health and needs of our members. She handled kosher food catering at our Club meetings, She always accepted Rotary tasks with a smile, enthusiasm and competence.
She leaves a legacy of treasured crocheted dolls and quits she made and donated as fundraisers at our Club events.
One of the joys Marilyn & I enjoyed were our visits to Helene's home. She was a very gracious hostess - immediately putting on a pot of tea and making fabulous macaroni and cheese or an omelette as we chatted.
Helene, born in Leipzig, Germany to a father who was a furrier. The family emigrated to England, where she lived through the Blitz of London, became an artist and art educator. When she made Aliyah, she served as a volunteer at the Israel Museum.
I will also remember the joy Helene enjoyed with her family. She was very close to her two daughters Nicki & Rafi grandchildren living nearby and son Alex & family living in England.
Grace in life and in passing. Helene was a person who made others feel comfort and her life was a demonstration of true loving kindness. When she knew she was near passing and we visited herbat home or hospital, she was concerned about our feelings and never complained or sought sympathy. She was
A woman of true grace and class.
Most important, Helene was our close friend - a real friend. She will be missed by so many. She gave so much.
May Helene's good deeds and qualities last for eternity.
WE MISS YOU HELENE.
